How To Trade JP Morgan [JPM]

How To Trade JP Morgan [JPM]
I post periodic updates to JP Morgan [JPM] as I see things worthy of note and update this page.  Feel free to bookmark it.

Back in April of this year I posted a JP Morgan chart and noted that a break out of the yellow box would tell traders a lot about whether we'd see lower or higher prices first.

As you can see, the ride was neither smooth nor straight, but we did (ultimately) see the suggested $120 level first following the breakout of the box.

Now price is prepared for yet another breakout (potentially) of my favorite price action trading pattern.  If you trade JPM, watch the horizontal line closely this Tuesday 15 October 2019 as the company is due to report.

The pattern followed through again.  I would use $115 as support now.

No real change in the financials... JPM still looks heavy and like its likely to take out the March low at some point.  Still, I wouldn't get short unless it's for a short term trade.  Longer term, I'd use any break of the low to start/continue to build a longer term long position.

Weakness in the financials continues and JP Morgan is not immune.  The company reported strong numbers last week, but the move higher lost its way already.  In fact, the chart pattern suggests there is more downside price action to be seen before upside.  The company next reports on October 13th.  Unless the price action improves substantially before then, I'd stay away.

  1. JP Morgan most recent earnings report
  2. My last look at JPM
  3. Price is meandering along
My guess is the next direction for the stock is lower.  I also think the ongoing divergence between the overall market at its highs and the general malaise among financials can't continue.
